Eternal Damnation useful?

An interesting little article  from the Daily Telegraph about research which the social usefulness of the doctrine of eternal damnation. This may go some way to explaining the continuing popularity of such nonsense. What do others think?

  1. N ow that is not good news for EU! But all the same it could be a challenge i.e need to clarify its position on mercy, forgiveness not excluding the procedures of cleansing, purification which, who knows, could involve a varying degree of pain, though EU does not believe in that being endless eternal. Am I off track in saying this?

  2. Only just seen your comment Michael. I don't think it is bad news for EU. It is an explanation of why the eternal damnation view has been so popular down the ages, and remains so with many christians and others. It is very useful, even though I firmly believe it is false and actually contradicts the teaching of the Bible and slanders God. The Bible teaches restorative justice, not endless retribution.
